13 INTERESTING FACTS ABOUT TIGERS.
- Tigers are the largest among other wild cats.
Did you know that male Tigers may weigh up to 300 kilograms? You probably already heard that Royal Bengal Tigers are the biggest among wild cats. Jezz! Comparable to weighing a group of six healthy adults. You would pass away in a matter of seconds if they simply sat on top of you while licking their paws.
2. A punch from a Tiger may kill you.
If you have a pet Tiger and a vicious opponent, you might as well throw them into a fist battle, even putting away the tiger’s immense size. Just kidding, it’s against the law to keep a tiger as a pet. One swipe from a tiger’s front hand is considered to be sufficient to kill an individual or an animal, or at the least to break one’s bones.
3. Tigers are nocturnal animals.
If you have a pet tiger and a dangerous foe, you might as well engage in a fistfight, disregarding the tiger’s enormous size. I kid you not; it’s illegal to keep tigers as pets. It is said that one swipe from a tiger’s front hand is enough to kill a person or an animal, or at the very least to break bones.
4. Tiger cubs are born blind and only half of the cubs survive.
The fact that just a tiny fraction of blind tiger kittens survive is a sad feature. The cubs are so blind that they can only follow their mother’s smell. Since they are blind from birth and are unable to keep up, the majority of them die from hunger or cold. In order to free the Tigress up for mating, male Tigers have even been known to eat part of it. That is absurd at all!
5. Tigers love to swim and play in the water.
The larger version of this species, in contrast to domestic cats, likes swimming for long periods of time. Mother tigers help or teach their cubs how to hunt while they are being raised, and they may even kill in the water. According to reports, they are capable of swimming for long distances as adults; one was reportedly spotted swimming 30 kilometers in a single day.
6. Tigers live for about 25 years.
Tigers live 20 to 25 years, whether they are in the wild or kept in captivity. The majority, however, perished before the age of 20, as was the case with Machli, who was 19 when she passed away in Rajasthan, India’s Ranthambore National Park. The oldest Tiger alive as of yet was Flavel, a circus-recovered Tiger that lived in a zoo in Tampa, Florida, and was 25 years old.
7. A group of Tigers is called an ambush or streak.
Even a Tigress with her puppies is called to as an ambush or a streak when they are placed in artificial settings where they must share or remain in place under particular spots in a man-made habitat.
8. Tigers can mate with other big cats.
Additionally, tigers may breed with other big cats; for example, if a male mates with a female lion, the offspring is known as a tigon. They are the largest cat species and have the capacity to outgrow the Liger, a hybrid of a male Lion and a female Tiger. A liger is around 4.5 feet tall when on all four legs and is about 6 feet tall when standing.
9. Amur tigers (sometimes called Siberian tigers) are the biggest tigers.
The largest tigers are Amur (also known as Siberian) tigers, with males reaching weights of up to 660 pounds and lengths of up to 10 feet from the tip of the snout to the tip of the tail.
10. Sumatran tigers are the smallest of the tiger subspecies.
The smallest subspecies of tiger is the Sumatran. Like a person’s fingerprint, each tiger has a unique pattern of stripes on its coat. These characteristics allow researchers to recognize tigers in the wild. The tiger is an excellent swimmer.
11. Their Skin Is Also Striped.
If you shave the fur off a tiger, its skin still shows its stripes. The same may be said about snow leopards, which have spots. The explanation is probably due to the pigmented hair follicles that the cats have embedded in their skin, which resemble beard stubble. This type of skin pigmentation is not present in other striped or spotted animals. For instance, zebras have black skin underneath their white and black striped coats.
12. Tigers may starve to death.
Without food, humans might survive for 30 to 40 days. Without sufficient nutrition, tigers might starve to death in two weeks. This is mostly because of its enormous size and hunger.
13. Tigers can drink more water thanks to the bristles on their tongue.
While other creatures could lap their tongues to drink, tigers could only flick the water droplets into their muzzles. Tigers don’t have the same thin, spiky tongue bristles as other cat species, which makes it more difficult for them to lap water like other cat species.
