Hydeia regularly had blood infections, pneumonia, and fungal infections in her brain. Her supportive mother marked her up for a examination preliminary to ideally find a treatment that would work for Hydeia.

Broadbent started her activism at age 6. She at first engaged with talking on HIV through Elizabeth Glaser, the one of pioneer behind the Elizabeth Glaser Pediatric Guides Establishment

the Oprah Winfrey Show, Nickelodeon special along with Magic Johnson Essence, and on The Maury Povich Show, Good Morning America, and at the 1996 Republican National Convention was her show

she established the "Hydeia L. Broadbent Foundation" and received a Black Achievement Award from Jet magazine. In 2002, her family published a book entitled "You Get Past The Tears",

Broadbent died in Las Vegas on February 20, 2024, at the age of 39.
